Bookkeepers keep organizations on track

Bookkeepers and Bookkeeping Clerks play key roles in every industry and organization. They update and maintain accounting records, including those that reflect expenditures, receipts, accounts payable and receivable, and profit and loss. A bookkeeper has knowledge of all ledger accounts, such as accounts payable/receivable, cash, and may also help with payroll or filing taxes.

A career in this field can range from Full-Charge Bookkeepers, who can maintain an entire company’s books, to Accounting Clerks, who handle specific bookkeeping tasks. You’ll find bookkeepers in small businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and as part of large departments in major corporations.

Demand expected to grow

Employment of bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks is projected to grow 11.4% over the coming years. As the number of organizations increase and financial regulation grows in scope, there will be greater demand for bookkeepers to maintain books and provide accounting services.
